Fundamental Cleaning recently received a call from a church in Manhattan in search of someone to come in and restore their beautiful terrazzo floors to their original shine. Over time, the wax sealer placed on top of the floors had been coated with dirt to the point that it couldn’t be cleaned well enough to showcase the floors. After three weeks of carefully removing the old wax, we were able to repolish and reseal the floors to restore them to their original condition.

Terrazzo itself is a is a composite material, poured on the spot or precast, consisting of chips of marble, quartz, granite, or glass. While the use of terrazzo can be traced back to the ancient mosaics of Egypt, its original roots come from Italy. Terrazzo does differ from mosaic tiling where mosaic tiling places individual pieces in a decorative pattern and terrazzo does not. Instead, small pieces are blended into a base and mixed together which creates a more even surface appearance. Decorative patterns can be achieved with the use of dividers between different colored terrazzo mixtures, as done here with the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

We completed the work and the client was very happy with the outcome! If you have a terrazzo floor in New York or New Jersey call 732-822-7369 for a fast, professional terrazzo restoration quote.
